Orthez offers fantastic riding for both on and off road enthusiasts (see the MTB pictures at the bottom of the page for some ideas!).
For the roadies the local area has many flat plains ideal for time trialling and flat out training, yet this landscape is punctuated by some punishing climbs, and of course the Pyrenees are close enough to offer a true challenge.
Could you ride to the Col de Madeleine, complete the climb, and back in a day (a total of approximately 75 miles) ?
The area is steeped in Tour de France history with the traditional start/finish town of Pau just a 25 minutes drive away.
In 2007 the Tour will have a rest day at Pau on the 24th July, with the following day going from Orthez and the mountains and leaving from Pau again on the 26th July. Both of these venues are close to our accommodation, providing a superb base to view what will be the first proper days racing in the 2007 Tour, www.tourdefrance
For the mountain biker, Orthez has some superb off road trails available, from fireroad style cruising to singletrack descents.However, just an hours drive takes you into the heart of the Pyrenees with all that true mountain biking has to offer. From lung busting climbing to adrenaline pumping singletrack downhill, all of your MTB desires can be answered in this corner of France.
